The duration of the MAT program varies for each individual based on their needs and recovery progress. Since Naltrexone and Vivitrol block the effects of opioids and alcohol, trying to use more substances to feel something can be very dangerous. Naltrexone and Vivitrol are not habit-forming and do not cause physical dependence, so stopping these medications does not lead to withdrawal symptoms. However, discontinuing MAT may increase your risk of relapse, so any changes to your medication regimen should be discussed thoroughly with your treatment team and made gradually with proper support.
